Saints all set for top-of-table clash

CITY set themselves up for Saturday's crucial second versus third Conference South clash against Havant and Waterlooville with a fine 3-0 Boxing Day victory against Hertfordshire rivals Bishop's Stortford.

City sit two points behind Havant with two games in hand and Colin LIppiatt's side will be full of confidence going into the New Year's Eve match after a ninth successive home victory against the Blues.

And the fact that Lee Clarke netted for Saints for the first time in 13 weeks will be almost as pleasing for Lippiatt as the victory.

Ben Walshe also netted on his return to Clarence Park after a spell with Fisher Athletic while midfielder Matt Hann scored for the tenth time in what is proving to be a highly productive season for the former Dorchester Town winger.

Defences were on top in the first half before Clarke opened the scoring shortly after the break, chesting down a Walshe cross and shooting low past Andy Young.

The second goal came on the hour when Clarke blocked a Stortford clearance and gave the ball to Hann who crossed for Walshe who headed high past Young.

And Hann got in on the act four minutes from time when Clarke won a free-kick, Walshe laid it into Hann's path and he rode one challenge before drilling home from the edge of the box.

l The return festive fixture with Bishop's Stortford takes place on Monday, January 2 at Woodside Park, kick-off 3pm.

l City's clash with Gary Roberts' Cambridge City, scheduled for Saturday, January 14, will now take place on Tuesday, February 14 at Milton Road, kick-off 7.45pm, because both teams are still involved in the FA Trophy.
