Brace gets his teeth into title
A TIGHT finish to a junior golf competition with both players ending the 18 holes on equal points saw 16-year-old Duncan Brace triumph on count back.
Duncan Brace and 12-year-old Andrew Bruce battled it out to the bitter end in the Junior Spring Cup stableford competition, at Aldwickbury Park Golf Club, Harpenden, on Sunday.
Both finished on 40 points, but Duncan's superior back nine score secured the TruGreen Professional LawnCare Services trophy and an Odyssey white hot smart putter for the new junior captain, from Codicote.
But the Bruce family can be consoled by the fact that Andrew Bruce's older brother, 13-year-old Callum, came in third as well, from the field of ten youngsters.
The club boasts around 60 junior members and those that made the final cut had to get through three qualifying rounds.
Former club captain and junior organiser, Eric Wyllie was pleased with the turn out, especially since it clashed with the England and Ecuador World Cup match.
He said: "I did not realise it was an England match. We did very well to get the boys to turn up that day. They all enjoyed it very much, it was just sad that in the end there were two boys on 40 points having played 18 holes of golf. It was a shame one had to be the winner and one had to be the runner up."
