Roads on verge of improvement
By

HIGHWAYS engineers in Hertfordshire are promising to keep their 20 million square metres of grass verge, sprouting under persistent spring rain, under control.

Hertfordshire Highways spokesman Lara Hejazi said: "Recently, a combination of warm weather and rain has made this job even more of a challenge for two reasons.

"Under these conditions grass has been growing up to 50 per cent faster than is usual. When the grass is wet, it is difficult to cut short and to do it neatly."

Those who want to report long grass, should call or email www.hertsdirect.org/highwayfaults
