Radlett star not fully fit yet
By
THE continued recovery from injury of Radlett's Shane Burger was underlined with an eight wicket demolition of Stevenage last weekend.
But upcoming opponents should beware, as despite the impressive display of wicket-taking, the Cobden Hill paceman says he is still not fully fit.
"The shoulder is not fine. It is still very much in the early stages.
"But you cannot do it in the gym. I need to be bowling more.
"I am not bowling nearly as quick as I would like. I am about 80 per cent.
In fact, the haul on Saturday came as Burger deliberately kept the pace down.
"With the wickets being so slow in the early season, bowling slower seems to be the right thing," he said.
Explaining his impressive figures of eight for 43 in 17.2 overs, Burger said: "I just slowed it down and it moved around and worked."
Although Burger has never been clocked, he is thought by team-mates to bowl at around the 80mph mark.
The 23-year-old thinks it will be about a month before he is back to full pace, but if Saturday's results continue may be tempted to keep the pace down.
He said: "As the wicket gets quicker it might encourage me to go off a longer run up. But if I carry on getting eight every week I will have to keep doing it from the short run up."
